The notion of "African" as a monolithic entity is rapidly fading in the face of diverse linguistic landscapes. In South Africa, this concept becomes particularly thought-provoking. While many associate "African" with the broader continent, South African identity manifests itself through a rich spectrum of vernacular languages. From Zulu to Xhosa to
